Since last October, Thug Kitchen has taken the world by storm with their crude-yet-effective way of getting people to eat healthier. The Tumblr blog features infographics and memes featuring very vulgar text on top of otherwise innocent and healthy food. The text is always some sarcastic way of telling their readers to eat well and many times features healthy recipe in the text.
The blog features a pretty colorful FAQ section where founder, Dr. Thug explains the purpose of the site.
THIS SITE IS HERE TO HELP YOUR NARROW DIETARY MINDED A** EXPLORE SOME F***ING OPTIONS SO THAT YOU CAN LOOK AND FEEL LIKE A F***ING CHAMP… EVERYONE DESERVES TO FEEL A PART OF OUR COUNTRY’S PUSH TOWARD A HEALTHIER DIET, NOT JUST PEOPLE WITH DISPOSABLE INCOMES WHO SPEAK A CERTAIN WAY.
Huffington Post recently had an interview with the very elusive founder “Dr. Thug,” who admitted that the site is actually ran by a handful of contributors, with irrelevant identities. The “Dr.” said:
We walk among you but Thug Kitchen isn’t just about us…Everyone should feel like a bad [Samuel L. Jackson-esque expletive] in the kitchen.
The site isn’t just a mockery either. Earlier this year they snagged the award for “Best New Blog” from The 2013 Best Food Blog Awards presented by Saveur, and have had their recipes featured in GQ Online, Huffington Post, and even Gwyneth Paltrow has shared her love for the site. Because we are so nice and want our readers to be healthy as falafels, we have decided to round up some of our favorite posts from Thug Kitchen.
They offer some good tips to keep in mind at parties this summer:
They sometimes even use their blog as a platform to talk about readily available options that are either unhealthy or overpriced:
Everybody loves to sit and cool off after a hot day in the sun and Thug Kitchen has you covered on that front as well:
Note: Thug Kitchen is about the farthest thing from being Safe-for-work so view the site at your own risk.
