Healthy Fast Food Choices

You’ve got to admit, stopping at a fast food place is the quickest way to get a meal. However, it can get expensive, plus it’s not all that great for you especially when you are trying to watch what you eat. So what can you eat that is healthy and not overspend? Here are a few meals that you can eat that will only cost you $5.

Subway

This may be the best places to go for saving money and eating healthy at the same time. Subway has a variety of subs that you can have made within a few minutes. You can order a sub with just veggies, meatball subs or anything that you choose. Their best deal is the $5 foot-long which they continue doing each year so far. You can’t go wrong with this because you can eat half of the sub for lunch and leave the other half as a leftover for later.

Burger King

Want the Whopper, but without all the calories? The Whopper Jr. will cut those calories in half and you still get the same taste. You can even add in a garden salad with light dressing. This isn’t totally healthy, but it’s a little better alternative.

Taco Bell

Not in a burger mood? Then a taco may be the best choice for you or even a burrito. Taco Bell has “Fresco” meals on the menu which means that the taco or burrito will be filled with cilantro, tomato, onion and meat instead of the shredded cheese and sauce.

McDonald’s

The $1 menu has become popular for those whose wallets are definitely down to their last few dollars. You can do better though and choose their snack wrap with grilled chicken. To make it an even healthier meal, pair it with a walnut salad or fruit such as the sliced apples.

Wendy’s

You would think a Wendy’s salad is what you should order, but it can pack a punch with fat and high calories. For an alternative to the salad, sour cream and chives potato is a little healthier or you can go with their simple chili with some mandarin oranges on the side.

Dunkin’ Donuts

Dunkin’ Donuts has added much healthier offerings on their menu and calling it DDSMART. Avoid those baked goods that may be calling your name and grab an Egg White Turkey Sausage Flatbread. You can order this little good any time of the day and you won’t feel like as bad after eating the sandwich.

Quick Tips:

  • Always bring your own water so that you won’t spend that extra $2 on a soda.
  • Skip the sauces as they can add more calories and fat to your meal. If you need some dressing on your salad, opt for the healthiest salad dressing or bring your own.
