Ginger appeared on our list of the Top 10 spices with health benefitsĀ for good reason: its anti-inflammatory properties help fight a number of diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, arthritis and heart disease. It’s also famous for curing nausea and motion sickness (I don’t know about anyone else, but my parents always gave me ginger ale and saltine crackers when I had an upset stomach as a kid). This video shows you different ways to use fresh ginger root in your everyday cooking. Make a ginger-flavored pudding, steep a cup of ginger tea, use it in a marinade, or even flavor your cooking oil with it to add a little kick to your dish. When buying ginger, look for a plump root that doesn’t look wrinkled or discolored.
