Today is International Coq Au Vin Day. Coq au vin, French for “rooster with wine” is a dish comprised of chicken braised in red wine, pork fat, mushrooms and spices. What started as a peasant dish has become an almost gourmet home dinner thanks to Julia Child, who introduced it to the American public through her cookbook and TV show. Watch her cook her original recipe on WGBH, get Chef Jenna Weber’s take on the dish on PBS, or watch our favorite celeb chef Alton Brown make it on his “Cuckoo for Coq Au Vin” episode of Good Eats.

Have you ever made coq au vin?
