Trail mix is such a fun, delicious snack that it gets its own special day. This fruit & nut combo provides a lot of energy and is easy to eat on the go, making it a favorite of hikers and campers that need a portable, mess-free snack to take with them into the great outdoors.

The only issue with trail mix is that when you buy it prepackaged, it usually comes with a lot of added sugars and preservatives. Luckily, it’s very simple to make it at home with things that you probably already have in your pantry. Put equal parts of your favorite nuts (almonds, walnuts, peanuts, cashews), dried fruits (raisins, cranberries, apricots, cherries), seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, flax) and low-sugar cereal (bran flakes, shredded wheat, plain Cheerios) for a healthy, additive-free trail mix!
