For over 45 years, family-owned Kozy Shack, Inchas been manufacturing their line of delicious all-natural desserts. The company started off as a neighborhood delicatessen serving homemade rice pudding in 1967. Since then, they’ve become an international dessert manufacturer with three facilities and a distribution services company, but they never strayed from their original dedication to creating high-quality products for everyone to enjoy. Their puddings, flans and gels are naturally gluten free, and they already offered lactose free versions of their rice, tapioca and chocolate pudding. Kozy Shack listened to consumer requests and began producing  Splenda-sweetened no sugar added puddings.

We picked up a pack of Kozy Shack no sugar added rice pudding and instantly fell in love with it. In fact, if we hadn’t read it on the label, we would swear it had real sugar in it. Nutritionally, it blows their original rice pudding out of the water: 70 calories (vs. 130), 14 g of carbohydrates (vs. 24), and 5 g of sugar (vs. 16). Because the NSA version contains inulin as a sugar substitute, it contains 3 grams of dietary fiber that you don’t get with the original pudding. Best of all, it tastes just as good as–if not better than–any full-sugar rice pudding. We sprinkled some cinnamon on ours for even more flavor and declared it absolute perfection. Berries or almonds would also make fantastic mix-ins.


The best part about Kozy Shack’s no sugar added products is that they can easily be included in a diet that’s low in refined sugar, saturated fats and cholesterol for a healthy heart. The company’s website lists recipes for most of their pudding flavors, but we love the NSA rice pudding recipes for Horchata (pudding, fat free milk, vanilla and cinnamon) and a fruity Rice Ambrosia (pudding, coconut milk, mango, and papaya/pineapple).
